The purpose of the 3 Star training is to prepare candidates for the 3 Star Award. It is also required for attending a course for the qualification of Level 2 Coach (instructor).

Itinerary:

Depending upon weather and seastate, we will cover all items on both land and water, with water instruction being preferred. Please bring a lunch as we will be taking a lunch break. Candidates should arrive with an open mind and be ready to learn. At the end of the training, each candidate will be counseled individually and told how they stand in respect for their training needs prior to the 3 Star Assessment. By taking the training, there is absolutely no guarantee that any candidate will be qualified to pass 3 Star. There is no pressure for the training—that will come soon enough in the assessment.

Clothing & Equipment:

Gear: All candidates must have a sea kayak in good working order, appropriate paddling attire, paddle, pump, sunscreen, filled water bottle, and lunch. You will be getting wet! It is recommended that you bring 2 changes of clothing, one for mid day and one for the end of the day. If you have a shelter or tarp, bring it along. If you have a first aid and repair kit, please bring them along (note that you will need to have these for the assessment). Gear may be borrowed, but instructors will not have extra gear to lend.
