Expand the scope of your Grecian kayak adventures with our new circumnavigation of the Greek islands of Milos and its neighbor Kimolos. The volcanic island of Milos provides a fascinating seascape combined with charming traditional villages. All in all, it's a unique retreat from civilization, and if that isn't quite remote enough for you, our sojourn to Kimolos provides you with a bit of time travel as well, back to the typical Greek island of twenty years ago.

Depending on weather conditions and other factors, there may also be the chance to visit part of the extensive catacombs where over 2000 early Christians were buried, or to see the Milos Archaeological Museum where a copy of the Venus de Milo is displayed, along with the original "Lady of Filokapi", an ornately painted statue of a much earlier goddess. The museum also displays many Cycladic marble figurines. There may also be time to visit one of the several beautiful churches nearby on Milos, including Holy Trinity, the Virgin Thalassitria, Our Lady of the Sea, and the church of Saint Eleousa, a later manifestation of the Cretan goddess of birth, Eileithyia. The town of Klima has a small ancient theater to explore, and there will be many more discoveries in store for us during our journey!

Trip Iitinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Milos by ferry or flight, transfer to Adamas, (originally Adamanthos, possibly named for a Minoan prince of Crete) the port town of Milos. We plan to spend the afternoon on our introductory kayaking lesson finding our first boats and partners, and enjoying an orientation in the beautiful waters of Milos bay, welcoming drinks at sunset follow, and dinner at a seaside taverna.

Day 2 - After breakfast and checkout, we leave behind the port city for our first leg of exploration paddling the shores of Milos’ large horseshoe shaped bay. Along our day’s paddle we lunch at a small settlement along the bay shore. We plan to round the northwest corner of Milos traveling south to Ammoudakia. Cliff jumping options may be available!

Day 3 - Our paddle continues south along the western shores of Milos. Our plan is to paddle 15 plus miles to the settlement of Provatas. The coast line on today’s paddle reveals vibrant turquoise water and breathtaking natural features such as caves, arches and spits of land. Provatas beach may provide us the opportunity to experience bathing in mineral springs.

Day 4 - Awaking on the southern shore of Milos, we continue our circumnavigation rounding the southeast corner and heading north. Today’s paddle reveals spectacular turquoise waters due in part to the ample minerals locked in this volcanic island. We travel north along the eastern shores with cappuccino and swim breaks on many of the numerous beaches. Our final leg of today’s paddle will find us landing on the sandy beach of Voudia. Across the channel we see Kimolos an adventure for tomorrow.

Day 5 - Today we'll paddle to Apolonia and cross the narrow channel to Kimolos. We will overnight on Kimolos at Psathi, the harbour of Chora Kimilos. If time and conditions permit, we may be able to visit the medicinal springs at Psathi or at Prassa. Some may choose to hike to Prassa, while the rest of us kayak there. We may have the chance to visit the islets of Agios Efstathios or the decaying hulk of a ship at Agios Georgios or cross to the larger island of Poliegos

Day 6 - Returning back to the island of Milos and continuing our circumnavigation, today’s paddle will see us visit many of the popular beaches on the island including Filakopi and Sarakiniko. Our evening accommodations will find us in Firopotamos.

Day 7 - Back to Adamas, concluding our tour of the island, we paddle along the northeast bay passing the resort towns of Plathiena, Klima and Plaka on the hillside. A celebration dinner allows us to come full circle sharing memories of our exploration.

Day 8 - After breakfast, we’ll have a few hours to walk the streets of Adamas and purchase any last minute keepsakes or gifts. We will then transport you back to the Milos airport by 11:00am allowing you to make necessary connections.

* Note: This is our intended itinerary. As with any adventure travel, the forces of nature can be unpredictable, causing us to make adjustments and changes to the itinerary. Rest assured that our many years of exploring have provided us with numerous options if changes need to be made. If it is too windy to paddle, various hiking, cultural and historical options will make you glad for the winds.

Trip details:
Our planned accommodations for the week may include inns, rent rooms, windmills or deluxe tent camping. Our trip is van supported the entire way. On most days, the van will meet us at the cappuccino and lunch stops. This gives everyone a chance to paddle as much as they want or take a break and shuttle in the van for part or all of a day’s itinerary. The van rides can give you a unique inland perspective of the island. Driving in Greece can be its own special adventure!
